ANNOTATIONS: We do not support fuse3 any longer as we see no need to provide two separated packages.

We do not recognize projects from Artifex Software as free and libre software developed from a community. Therefore we will no longer distribute ghostscript, ghostpcl, ghostxps, gsfonts and mupdf. We will also remove every package depending on these without leaving an option to disable.

We do not recognize Qt as complete free and libre framework. Alone qtcreator has severe issues with support for non-free systems and interfaces, not possible to patch or being removed. Therefore we stop providing more support for qt-based packages and stick to what we have now. We also will not support any newer version of qt as we have now, so there will be no Qt6 (or higher) here in Hyperbola.

We have tried to preserve filezilla and libfilezilla but in the retrospective the project is no longer compatible with our principles and values, therefore also not working with our perspective on free, libre software.

We will finally stop providing UXP-applications here at Hyperbola: They are no longer maintained, so not getting any update on behalf of security and more. As very small team we are not capable to maintain projects like icedove-uxp and will therefore remove the application from our repositories upcoming. There are surely good working alternatives like claws-mail we will active further maintain in our repositories.

We do not recognize any longer samba (and its different packages / components) as needed for our operating-system. So all parts of samba are going to be removed without any replacements. The idea of interoperability has been approved as "failed" after around more than two decades and further.

We will remove any other cron-implementation except scron for being most solid and approved working while having a really small codebase oriented on POSIX-compliance. We will keep compatibility with further enhancements of the package scron without changing its code in any way making therefore no further changes in other cron-dependencies needed.The packages cronie and dcron implement non-standardized options so we recognize them being no longer needed within our system.

We do not recognize vim (and resulting packages) as further helpful in regards of free, libre software being handmade as the maintaining team upstream have concluded to use LLM-based mechanism for the further development. Even partwise or selective used there will be irreversible damage done to free and libre software.

It is impossible for us to maintain openttd-legacy, supertux-legacy and liberation-circuit further as none of the mentioned packages any longer keep a way forward to free and libre software. They are provided throughout non-free platforms, include non-free interfaces and services with foul compromises from our perspective.

We do not see any future for libreoffice within Hyperbola GNU/Linux-libre and also HyperbolabSD: The package is right away too big within design and in need of much more dependencies to just enable non-free file-formats. Furthermore the on-going problems between "The Document Foundation" and "Collabora" demonstrate very well the elementary issues within commericalization of free, libre software and the tryout to hide this within the vague term "open-source".

We do not tolerate vibe-coding within projects, therefore we remove or freeze any project / package doing and using such.

ANNOTATIONS: We want to reduce the usage of the package webkitgtk towards the absolute minimum (i.e. webbrowsers). We do not see any advantage to include such within a normalized application on fthe system local running. The only current exception is yelp as help-browser using web-technology, so we need to keep this dependency up and running.

We will remove openmotif as the package itself does not comply with the community-aspect of Hyperbola and is only provided as corporate "open-source" project.

We do not have further interest to support packages based on tor as many of them are no longer under maintenance. This would be not a big issue if those applications could be running local without a concrete connection. But as this is not the case here we will remove those packages.

As of now iceweasel-uxp is no longer possible for us to maintain. So we remove it complete and finally.

We remove trisquel-gtk-theme and trisquel-icewm-theme, with adding another theme for IceWM as we do not want depend any longer on other names and projects that much.

FURTHER NOTES: Generic said: If you find our strategy not okay and sufficient, want more updates and a newer base for building, dear user, you have several options.

Option #1 - You can surely write us mails, speak in IRC and demand updates, which will only result in further debates.
Option #2 - You can give us a helping hand - or even more than your own - so we can update and test newer versions of really essential packages.
Option #3 - Or you grant us more financials, so we can clearly also give other developers money to support us.

The option #1 is the most chosen one, but also the worst in helping. You just show that you clearly have only interest that others do the work for you without yourself having further interest to learn more about your system and the essentials. It is your choice for sure, but we do not react on option #1.

ANNOTATION: We are replacing qemu out of the reasoning that this project has also concluded to work into rust and therefore modules based on that language. ANNOTATION: We have no intention and interest to further add more complexity and keep Python and Tauthon based packages the most simple. ANNOTATION: We do no longer provide addons and translation-packages for the UXP-applications within the repositories. It does not make any sense as those packages make more work than being useful. Every user can install the translation-packages in their own local in the profile. So we won't keep them in the root-system, which makes the whole administration for users also more flexible in the outcome.

We will remove the package fish out of the reasoning that the project-maintainers have conclude to use Rust for the further development (please look here for more information: https://github.com/fish-shell/fish-shell/pull/9512). The package will be no longer part of Hyperbola as fish also provides uncountable references to problematic framework and packages like NodeJS, Java and several others. Creating therefore a patch is that amount of work we have as small team no time for, if anybody has the wish to provide a package feel free. We are not maintaining a package for fish any longer.

ANNOTATION: We will stop providing packages with "python2-" as notation for provide, replace and conflicts. So for 0.4.5 all of our packages for Tauthon are exactly only for Tauthon and won't grant any relation towards Python 2. We will also reduce as seen the amount of packages for Python and Tauthon in general: Applications purely based on them are not reliable enough as their dependency-tree is changing that quite often that long-term stable systems only have more work with them. We see them in this perspective as support and enhancements and needed applications same way.
