Sorry about the status of Open Collective, the platform does sound promising in terms of potential donations. I understand if its current use will hinder the project goals. I guess we have to wait and see if it changes to libre standard in time. As for the free DNS, I suppose there is a matter of skepticism in regards to gratis service in exchange for libre freedoms.

Sorry, but with "more people" there are also "more demands" especially on packages and software we have already excluded for a reasoning: Apache Webserver for example is complete incompatible. Wine is incompatible as it promoting the usage of non-free software. IceCat is not compatible as it demands Rust for compilation. The list is on-going: https://wiki.hyperbola.info/doku.php?id … e_packages

The promoted way stays that every user finds the own to Hyperbola. Yes, that is not common, but is better than loosing the identify of this project itself. Also is the number of registered users not per say the number of users of Hyperbola in a whole. Sure users are welcome, but on their own way to find out and when they are interested. We have included as much software as possible.

Hyperbola is also not doing any welcome to hosted services of companies. Please read here therefore: https://wiki.hyperbola.info/doku.php?id … ialization

GNU and FSF are doing many failures, so we do not want to follow them on that way especially.
Hyperbola is following there its own path, maybe this one is surely not promoted by masses. But it is the own identity we have a big focus on. So if people have interest to follow Hyperbola? Welcome. If they only want "another generic system with many many compromises"? Not Hyperbola.

It has come to my attention that opencollective is using a Cloudflare web hosting or domain name registrar service. In addition, it uses Google Trust Services as SSL CA (Cloudflare uses this certificate as default setting).

I have informed opencollective about Hurricane Electric Free DNS Hosting portal on https://dns.he.net/ (not sure about hosting stability though). I have also informed it about Let's Encrypt SSL CA. Instructions to be provided as well.
Maybe Hyperbola could benefit from this DNS? I haven't tested it myself, but it seems that GNU uses it.
Unfortunately, this website may use Google Analytics and other tracking services (used uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, and other ad blocker plugins for web browser). I guess that's the agreement/contract price of free gratis service?

---

I just realize that there is only 38 users in this forum. I guess we need a larger Hyperbola Linux-libre or HyperbolaBSD user base? I am certain that frequently used software such as Apache and etc would benefit operating system usage. I cannot say for daily use because I would have to know about custom selection of software installation (a list would help [can't say about Librewolf versus GNU IceCat/IceWeasel, Wine {they be for another topic}]). With more people, comes potential donations/assistance.

Thanks for the mention and proposal: The more platforms we would include or frequent use the more work we have alone to collect the data for the monthly report. Just because one platform promises to offer some more "tools" does not make us free for an own overview. The issues we have are not alone within privacy, also within the missing donations. There are multiple ways to donate, not only with money:

support in testing

support in further development (likewise upcoming removal of udev / eudev)

support in web-infrastructure and reworking this

support in explicit development of HyperbolaBSD

Just named some, but in general: Free software is living from the altruism of all people using and developing it. When we stop making a "value" noted with our time or / and handing out some support the developing persons, we also stop in general for free, libre software. So yes, we could look inside OpenCollective. But this does not overcome the problems in the financial situation and the problems in helping hands missing.

Hello Hyperbola Linux-libre,

I see that you have some trouble regarding privacy issues when it comes to donations. Maybe this website, https://opencollective.com/, can help? I also see that there are information regarding wire transfers. Maybe this website can help with safeguarding such information. There's no guarantee that it can consistently perform this task so I would consider multi-factor authentication, encryption, and fraud alerts whenever possible. What I like about this website is the fact that guests could donate to the account in question, reducing the threshold requirement for assistance.

I am not sure how libre this website is, but as far as I remembered, it supported software for UNIX-like operating systems such as Xfce desktop environment. Maybe Lumina can get funding for development? I like the command/application launchers on the Xfce panels, I could even get a custom lockscreen working that way. Even if Lumina could not get custom commands on its panel(s), I think I will figure something out like a desktop/menu shortcut or to custom lockscreen.
I know the wire transfer info could be cover, but it's probably consistent/better/safer/efficient to utilize the british pound (or similar instances) instead of euro?
