I'm also another new user of Hyperbola. Just installed GNU/Linux-libre Milky Way i686 on my old Pentium 4 based laptop yesterday (don't know the full model name) and everything so far seems to be working.
3D accel works.
Sound works and I don't even need software volume control, since my laptop has a hardware volume knob.
Trackpad is in absolute mode for some reason (Maybe I did something wrong).
Ethernet works.
Don't have to worry about WiFi since I don't have any wireless NIC.
I don't want to switch over my other machines (Too much unsupported HW, mostly because of nonfree firmware and missing bluetooth support), but I'm glad I can properly use my old Laptop again.
Still have some issues with some parts of Hyperbola though. What would be the appropriate forum section to ask about general advice and share my first impressions (and issues) as a new user of Hyperbola.

UPDATE: I am now using a Dell Latitude E6400 laptop with a SATA SSD and internally flashed with a blobless libreboot (stable release from June 2023, and WITHOUT microcode updates. Both out-of-date and up-to-date microcode are bad for freedom for being proprietary, I have merely decided that, in my case, outdated microcode is the lesser evil (but still an evil!), for the reasons outlined here and here. I believe that something as important as microcode should be free.).

I decided that using a pre-built stable libreboot ROM was the best solution in order to reduce the risk of bricking this laptop (which would force me to get external flashing equipment)

This is by far the librest laptop I have ever used, which is great. It is also noticiably faster than the other, more modern laptop I was using. Booting is very unreliable and often doesn't work, but this is not surprising given the dead CMOS battery and the fact that I am using a setup without microcode updates (which the Libreboot project explicitly recomends against). The touchpad is dead and the internal audio is malfunctional, but that's ok as these two can easily be replaced my peripherals (mouse and headphone). No internal Wi-Fi; hopefully I will soon get an USB Wi-Fi adapter with libre drivers so that I can achieve a freedom-friendly connection

Before I switched to Hyperbola, I used to use a Lenovo Ideapad 320-14IKB (Model: 80YF), but as I started looking into the sussy proprietary firmware in it, I became more and more afraid of using such laptop, to the point where I started to outright refuse to use it. Not only does it have an Intel ME, but the Wi-Fi is non-free

After a long time of trying to find out a solution, I discovered that my mom's laptop (an Acer Aspire E 15; E5-571-33ZU) is slightly more freedom-friendly, so now we share it. It too has an Intel ME, but the battery is removable so I can (atleast in theory) temporarily disable the ME by removing all power sources. The Wi-Fi is libre so it is easy to run blob-free distros (tried Trisquel on BIOS, later replaced by Hyperbola on UEFI)

I must note that both of these laptops are flawed freedom-wise and I heavily recommend NOT buying them. They were obtained back when me and my parents didn't know about the importance of free software/firmware. Nowadays, I am loud about my criticism of proprietary software/firmware (such as Intel ME) and I warn my parents about its dangers. I also make it clear that I value freedom over modernity, so I refused my father's proposal to get me a more modern (read: more proprietary) laptop.
