Basically, Oracle VirtualBox is free, open source software for creating virtual machines which let you run separate operating systems on your machine while main one is working.
For example, while running Windows on your host machine, you'd be working on Linux in a virtual machine at the same time.

I see. If that's the case, is there, by any chance, a more libre-friendly virtual machine app in the works?
Virt-Manager and Qemu are good ones. 2.1.0 version of Virt-Manager is the last version I tested to work on Hyperbola if you compile from source.
I hope Emulatorman will add that version some day. 
just a heads up though, virt-manager does support non FSDG complaint distros by default. So I recommend you not compile it. And wait for the repo aka. If that is why you do it, I understand. Been there done that. Still doing it, but know there is a security risk if you do so. Also, non FSDG distros even in a virtual machine should never be connected to the internet.
That's all I have to say on this. Again though, ignore if you wish, just be extremely careful if you do so.
