We adapted the Tor Browser UA philosophy because so many websites do user-agent sniffing. As we GNU/Linux users are the minority, it can allow corporations/websites to directly target and track an individual with very minimal efforts.

For that reason we do not have a unique user-agent at this time.

For users who wish to make a bold statement, the actual user-agent would be:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:52.9) Goanna/4.4 Iceweasel-UXP/52.9

Please note this is not recommended and will more than likely break the ability to browse many websites, since they check this string prior to loading the requested page.

For what my $0.02 CAD is worth, I agree. Not that it's exceptionally hard to change an agent string, but yeah. Maybe (more) web developers or whatever can start realising that not everyone runs That Which Must Not Be Named.

Hi comrades!

I think for us it will be better to have the browser user-agent with the "gnu" linux platform instead of windows. Is it really more safety? I don't think so, for this question it's better torbrowser, but is important to make a statement to the institutions and the companies (like municipalities, universities, banks ..etc ) whom webs we use letting them know that gnu/linux community exist.
What do you think?
