I found the problem: I'm running the browser in Firejail. The firejail profile for iceweasel-uxp (and palemoon) includes the profile for firefox, which includes the profile for firefox-common, which has the nogroups option set.

nogroups excludes the audio group.

That's weird, I haven't had this problem at all.

Although I do use the later of the iceweasel-uxp versions.

I keep uploading a new one every so often on disroot and send the link into this forum.

I use Alsa. It's been working fine for months. Nothing is muted on alsamixer. I can hear audio from media players and iceape-uxp, but not from iceweasel-uxp nor palemoon.

I had not changed any alsa settings right before this happened.
