As I have said: We want to bring back support and there is no need to do anything else.

To rename a package you just need to change the PKGBUILD-parameters:

Original PKGBUILD

pkgname=portaudio

...

Renamed PKGBUILD

pkgname=portaudio-sndio
# versioning is very bizarre:

provides=('portaudio')

You need nevertheless the "provides"-parameter, just to be cautious. Also to have a look: pkgname is a variable, you need to look carefully about this being used.
