Topic: I will always try to help, not hurt.

I was making this account to help Hyperbola remove software based on the policy Hyperbola made. I think I found three. Micropolis, Lugaru, and OpenArena.

I could post or search for more information if needed/desired or not if not desired.

I saw Micropolis was designed and implemented by Will Wright,
Copyright (C) 2002 by Electronic Arts.

It also had ADDITIONAL TERMS per GNU GPL Section 7 in the README file.
about its' companies trademarks.

Has the SimCity Trademark in it.

Electronic Arts is a company.

The lugaru README.md shows in part

This is the same game as the one distributed by Wolfire Games on
[Lugaru HD's website](http://www.wolfire.com/lugaru), though this repository
contains some further developments which are not (yet) featured in the
commercial version.

and

Lugaru was originally developed by David Rosen of [Wolfire Games](http://www.wolfire.com)
and was [open sourced in 2010](http://blog.wolfire.com/2010/05/Lugaru-goes-open-source).
It was made cross-platform with the help of [Ryan C. Gordon](http://icculus.org).

Various forks were made at that time, and the most interesting developments
were put back together under the OSS Lugaru organization, originally on
[Google Code](https://code.google.com/p/lugaru) and then on
[Bitbucket](https://bitbucket.org/osslugaru/lugaru).

This new repository on [GitLab](https://gitlab.com/osslugaru/lugaru) is run
by the same team, and aims at revitalizing the development effort to clean
things up, ensuring the code base builds and runs fine on all supported
platforms, and easing the packaging of Lugaru in Linux distributions.

Ideally, the updated code base could also be used to update the Lugaru HD
version sold by Wolfire Games once proven better than the current commercial
builds.

So I thought this was "corporate software like" or that starting development funded by a business as this "community-driven" game may have had too much corporate funding for Hyperbola.

It looks like they (the lugaru community) wish to work to get any updated code base into the Wolfire Games version. The Wolfire Games version is also sold on Steam.

There is a link to the Wolfire Games website on the lugaru website.

Wikipedia also shows this was started by a company.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lugaru

OpenArena is a fork of the ioquake3 engine.
The company id Software LLC made the ioquake3 engine.
The company id Software LLC is a subsidiary of ZeniMax Media and that is a subsidiary of Microsoft.

As for my signature before

"
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
"

I thought to post that quote there because I'm a Christian and I desired to share how God has love for everyone everywhere with that quote.

I know any quotes some people may not relate to but I hope everyone can relate to or understand love and kindness.

With the

https://forums.hyperbola.info/misc.php?action=rules

being against discriminate against people based on things like religion, ideology I would not think a quote about loving people would cause problems.

I do not know how active my account should be, though I was trying to be active enough to at least try to be helpful to Hyperbola.

As for any cross-posting I was trying to promote understanding or at least help understanding between any groups. If that could not be done I hoped at least groups could agree to disagree politely and in loving kindness and not make any false accusations against anyone anywhere or do any other evil thing against each other.

I can try to do better though I do not know how much help I can provide.

I'm sorry for any problems I caused.

I love and care for you all.

Re: I will always try to help, not hurt.

And now we are back again in the same debates as before: First things first as the cross-posting is the major point. You won't help anyone when doing such. Instead it brings even more issues with as we are clearly open for working together, but if we are instead harassed and laughed at this brings nothing more than frustration. This happened before, so please do not cross-post threads. You can ask surely questions and clear up. Nevertheless every question needs attention. So now this leads to the different packages and projects you have listed:

OpenArena
There is nothing bad to fork something, and rework it. Otherwise we would need evern more to remove, especially more than half of free games. Like FreeDoom is based on the original game and is using forked engine-implementations. This is the same with OpenArena. No company is working on OpenArena and it is in fact foremost the same as FreeDoom. You underlined it even: It is a fork, not the original one. Even though we do not distribute and include ioquake3 as there is not more free, libre published games alike OpenArena.

Lugaru
This is the same argumentation as for OpenArena: It is complete free and libre software. If we argument on that level this misleads the original intention of community-driven software. Both - Lugaru and OpenArena are community-driven projects, so we distribute them.

Micropolis
This is a fair point given, but remember then: When we remove this one there are no leftover city-simulations for people in favor of this genre.

Generic to be said: Removal of even more packages is not the major point, community-driven software is also about free and libre published games later on as there are surely enough once before software created from companies. If you select the term "made by a company" wrong in that selection, we have severe issues with reasoning. The question is not only: "Was it created by a company?" The question is also: "Is there a problem within the licensing? Is there current or / and in the future an issue?" and "Is the original copyright no longer relevant?"

You do not help with removal in that point: When you are interested in auditing, sure thing. But this has not the major goal to "remove software". So the relevant part of the issue with Micropolis is this one:

No trademark or publicity rights are granted. This license does NOT give you any right, title or interest in the trademark SimCity or any other Electronic Arts trademark. You may not distribute any modification of this program using the trademark SimCity or claim any affliation or association with Electronic Arts Inc. or its employees.

Any propagation or conveyance of this program must include this copyright notice and these terms.

If you convey this program (or any modifications of it) and assume contractual liability for the program to recipients of it, you agree to indemnify Electronic Arts for any liability that those contractual assumptions impose on Electronic Arts.

You may not misrepresent the origins of this program; modified versions of the program must be marked as such and not identified as the original program.

This means we would need to ask for permission if we modify anything on the project Micropolis as otherwise we would "misrepresent its origins". This is inacceptable on behalf the freedoms given as said before: We do not represent free software alike the FSF or on behalf, we do it like it is written.

Coming now to the last part: Please respect that not everyone is into believing that same as you are doing. With the greatest respect given, we do not make notes on religious beliefs as they are private. If you want to share them open, please choose a different place therefore as this forum is marked not for any direction. And I would need to react exactly the same with every other quote from religious contexts. Loving beings is therefore not included for sure: This is complete independent seen. wink

To conclude: We will now list Micropolis for removal, keeping OpenArena and Lugaru as they are independent to be seen.

Human being in favor with clear principles and so also for freedom in soft- and hardware!

Certainly anyone who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to make you commit injustices: For a life of every being full with peace and kindness, including diversity and freedom. Capitalism is destroying our minds, the planet itself and the universe in the end!
