Tests for zathura were positive and I can add it now to our repositories.

Re: [Hyperbola] Going the way and packaging, the roadmap after 0.4

bbkeys it's missing under Hyperbola:

https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/ … D?h=bbkeys

The PKGBUILD needs some fixes, such as the groups() tag and maybe libbt needs the static
library (*.a) being built. Otherwise, with bbkeys blackboxwm it's now complete.

328

Re: [Hyperbola] Going the way and packaging, the roadmap after 0.4

bbkeys is not working with our libx11.
It would be unstable and was surely looked into but rejected out of the named reasoning.

Re: [Hyperbola] Going the way and packaging, the roadmap after 0.4

We will remove the following packages:

alex4 (the source-code is free, libre and permissive licensed, the graphics, sounds and other data is not)
moria (naming-issue would cause copyright-problems)
powertop (corporate project)
hdparm (no BSD-port available, not needed for essential other parts)

Furthermore:

atomix
five-or-more
gnome-2048
gnome-klotski
gnome-mines
gnome-chess
gnome-mahjongg
gnome-sudoku
gnome-tetravex
tali
libgnome-games-support
cytadela

Re: [Hyperbola] Going the way and packaging, the roadmap after 0.4

Also we need to modify the following packages:

neverball
supertuxkart

There are questionable files added in both so we remove them: Balls for neverball and karts for supertuxkart. It should be clear why we have chosen to put some of the packages on hold now. smile

Re: [Hyperbola] Going the way and packaging, the roadmap after 0.4

On the Moria issue, there was uMoria and, in the same way, Ularn for Larn to avoid restrictive licenses by "rebasing" the game in a libre way.

https://github.com/dungeons-of-moria/umoria

https://github.com/davidpeng/ularn

EDIT: Ok, the package just renames 'umoria' into 'moria'. Keep umoria then.

332

Re: [Hyperbola] Going the way and packaging, the roadmap after 0.4

We won't keep either: It is the phrasing "moria" itself. May it be with or without further other naming before or not. It is too near towards material being not marked as "free and libre", just under copyright. And we have no interest to be part of any lawsuit or even named within one while the project(s) get the problems. We will remove that package as we named the reasoning.

If you think it might be related to The Lord of the Rings, you can release Moria and replace the Copyrighted names under another name, the GPL should allow it.
Gutemberg should have lots of books in PD with legally usable names.
For instance, from Lovecraft.

336

Re: [Hyperbola] Going the way and packaging, the roadmap after 0.4

And I underline now: It is not our task to free packages by indirect forking them. There is a difference between replacing some non-free files like in supertuxkart and rewriting the lore and background of a complete game just to preserve it. moria is per definition not easy to be replaced: We would need to rename the background, replace the story, replace the graphics and also replace all names of the project itself. This results in a complete fork nevertheless.

That is not the task for a system-distribution and operating-system like Hyperbola!

Re: [Hyperbola] Going the way and packaging, the roadmap after 0.4

With the removal of scummvm we get also lighter in perspective of those projects attending at those "Summer of Code"-events. The project scummvm is using that surely not for the bad, but please remember: Companies and corporations are NOT doing this because they want us all to have free, libre software. They do that only for marketing-purpose. It hurts surely to remove scummvm and blacklist it, but everyone is free to decide further and personal.

And no: We are not adding it later on again. This is and was the last point for scummvm in the repositories for Hyperbola. If people in the community want to make ports in the future or packages, feel free.

You can always build and use them yourself. But the point here: We are in transition towards BSD and therefore our focus is surely no longer GNU/Linux alone.

Re: [Hyperbola] Going the way and packaging, the roadmap after 0.4

We will also need to modify our version of minetest and cmplete deactivate the access towards the so-called "content db". The reasoning is the same as for supertuxkart: When you can download non-free licensed modifications and addons we need to take action. Same also for supertuxkart: We will not touch the interface for addons and modifications, but you will need to take action on your own. There will be no graphical nterface available downloading anything besides: We don't see any reasoning why this should be any advantage for any game and application. wink

Yes, technical emancipation means also that we look after our data as no one else should and will do. Sure thing that local advantages and comfort-functions are interesting and nice. But we cannot accept that games have uncontrolled access towards whatever else data without knowledge of users.

The reality also would be that we would otherwise need to remove minetest as with version 5.8 now released the project relies just complete on their online-platform named content-db.  There is no longer any game direct offered as download and should not be from the perspective of the project (minetest). So far their decision, but having free, libre licensed data residing next definitive non-free data is not working and also every other system-distribution offering this should question the ways forward. That's exactly the same for other projects also. We are heading towards a situation where even every single application hosts its own data-repositories to enhance it in the near future and everyone can upload there whatever kind of licensed data. And we think this is nevertheless free, libre software then?

Re: [Hyperbola] Going the way and packaging, the roadmap after 0.4

The following packages will be next removed:

xonotic
xonotic-data

The software is not following free, libre software itself and sends statistics to their own infrastructure. Furthermore it is very centralized around that as no one can change that statistics-server to something self-hosted. So that package maybe free, permissive licensed, but internal it is not following those. We deny telemetry in any way, may it be in games or other applications. So we don't distribute such packages and won't do that.

341

Re: [Hyperbola] Going the way and packaging, the roadmap after 0.4

Also to be removed:

spatialindex

We don't need this package and depending ones like minetest can be build without. To explain here the strategy when people wondering why we remove so many packages we had before added: With 0.4 we needed to rebuild all from scratch and so we have defined only the complete incompatible interfaces, libraries and resulting packages. From that point we go further and reduce the amount of included packages possible for reaching our defined minimalists system.

Why is emacs-headless removed but not gui-emacs?

346

Re: [Hyperbola] Going the way and packaging, the roadmap after 0.4

The first and most needed part for me was to get rid of severe and unneeded dependencies. So emacs-headless is only needed for cmake and ninja. Removing this bindings get it working for updates without endless rebuilds for me as package-maintainer.

Re: [Hyperbola] Going the way and packaging, the roadmap after 0.4

Next packages to be removed:

vdrift
bullet
bullet-docs
python-pybullet

The reasoning is that vdrift is using copyrighted material and logos for textures and more. So we won't distribute it any longer.
Another approval that this is only tolerated. The companies would immediately go behind those projects when they would care more about.

Can headless emacs still be installed per user  from Gnu upstream sources, bypassing pacman (hyperman) completely? or should the pacman build file for the gui emacs be modified locally to produce a headless emacs?

You can modify the PKGBUILD for emacs to build it without GUI. But we won't add another package for emacs again, while we want to reduce the amount of packages.
