Topic: Problem with USB WiFi adapter (AR9271)

I use Hyperbola Milky Way v0.3.1

Have the ath9k-htc-firmware package installed, but I get the following error when insert the adapter (dmesg output):

[ 9835.013983] usb 1-2: new high-speed USB device number 5 using xhci_hcd
[ 9836.051964] usb 1-2: ath9k_htc: Firmware ath9k_htc/htc_9271-1.4.0.fw requested
[ 9836.051991] usbcore: registered new interface driver ath9k_htc
[ 9836.052451] usb 1-2: Direct firmware load for ath9k_htc/htc_9271-1.4.0.fw failed with error -2
[ 9836.052458] usb 1-2: ath9k_htc: Firmware htc_9271.fw requested
[ 9836.337250] usb 1-2: ath9k_htc: Transferred FW: htc_9271.fw, size: 51008
[ 9836.589777] ath9k_htc 1-2:1.0: ath9k_htc: HTC initialized with 33 credits

lsusb output:

Bus 001 Device 012: ID 0cf3:9271

iw list command does not display anything

In general, the adapter does not work. What should I do to make it work?

Re: Problem with USB WiFi adapter (AR9271)

Could you please provide more information about the used hardware itself? Following here is a generic list for supported devices:

https://wiki.debian.org/ath9k_htc#Supported_Devices

A little help on how to identify the device:

Re: Problem with USB WiFi adapter (AR9271)

It's  TP-LINK TL-WN722N v1, which is use Atheros 9271 chipset.

At https://wiki.debian.org/ath9k_htc#Supported_Devices it's

USB: 0CF3:9271 Atheros Communications, Inc. AR9271 802.11n

Some outputs as at https://wiki.debian.org/HowToIdentifyADevice/USB

lsusb -v | grep -E '\<(Bus|iProduct|bDeviceClass|bDeviceProtocol)' 2>/dev/null

Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0cf3:9271
  bDeviceClass 255
  bDeviceProtocol 255
  iProduct 32 (error)
      (Bus Powered)

sudo cat /sys/kernel/debug/usb/devices | grep -E "^([TSPD]:.*|)$"

T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=01 Cnt=02 Dev#= 5 Spd=480 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=ff Prot=ff MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=0cf3 ProdID=9271 Rev= 1.08
S: Manufacturer=ATHEROS
S: Product=USB2.0 WLAN
S: SerialNumber=12345

I would also share the results of the hardinfo program, but when the adapter is connected in Devices > USB Devices, it does not show anything. I tried to update vendor list, but I got an error. But this is another topic for discussion.

Re: Problem with USB WiFi adapter (AR9271)

The best way to get it working would be to tryout the testing-branch, meaning the version 0.4 we are currently working on. For 0.3.1 I have no test-results with such a device. The question would be: Do you have some desktop-environment installed on 0.3.1? Or do you use a window-manager with modifications for example? Most desktop-environments won't run any longer without common Linux-only frameworks and Hyperbola don't support that for the future going for BSD.
