Well actually, some people did fork the project!

That was exactly what I was refering to with my last posting.

Here's how it started - my posting before my last posting:

During Denis "GNUtoo" Carikli's talk "Taking control over the means of production: Free software boot," a fork of Libreboot was announced. This fork, published at https://libreboot.at/, has been created to restore software freedom by removing nonfree binary blobs.

Would be a good idea to reach out to them for collaboration.

Sure? I mean, how plausible is that? What's the point of forking new libreboot with its known free software issues in conjunction with displaying the effort on the free software conference 'LibrePlanet 2023' and receiving support from the people there, if it's just the same as what Leah is doing now software-wise?

Re: New Libreboot release

@Constantmotion that is indeed wise. I still don't think having a libreboot fork called osboot within the same repo is a problem to be fair, but having a fork totally devoted to the fsf standard isn't bad, provided it doesn't bloat itself to death or care about freedom so much that it compromises security when privacy wouldn't be increased by said move.
To be fair, my mantra for what would be wise is this:

Allow nothing that sends any important info via remote blob.

Meaning anything that could be plausibly used against a user.   X220 for example fits this bill and there are probably newer gens that might fit this bill, although caution is still very wise before assuming anything without looking yourself as to the danger.

As a final note, using coreboot + intel me disabled is still miles better than using stock bios no matter the vendor.

Re: New Libreboot release

Just to note that the git-repositories from the new announced fork are for the moment leading into nowhere:

https://libreboot.at/git.html
https://git.sr.ht/~libreboot/lbmk

Whatever happened: The project seems now even no longer maintained or in a severe state.
Nevertheless the only option stays to wait until some news are available. But as said: Libreboot as it is now is missing its own mission-statement. Sure it is possible to draw lines, but when it is just "some freedom better than nothing" the movement for free and libre hardware should start question itself. Too pragmatic without outcome.
