Topic: Install and use the new Grub

Hi all. As already mentioned here, I can install and configure everything I need in Hyperbola!
I have a question, can I install Grub version 2.12 using this PKGBUILD https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/ … h=grub-git   or https://git.parabola.nu/abslibre.git/tree/libre/grub

Will this break my system?

I do not know, but you can try it, and if it does not work right you can still install Hyperbola again and change things in the PKGBUILD till it works on you computer the way you wish it should.

I did not test any PKGBUILD from those sites, but you may wish to check what is different on those other systems, so if you need to change the PKGBUILD for Hyperbola you may than know what you need to change.

Or if Hyperbola has a PKGBUILD you can also change that on your own computer.

Also I do not know what you have installed on your computer now, so I do not know if installing any other things could break anything on your system now.

It might break your system. Honestly, I think the main thing is you need to pick a different tact like I mentioned elsewhere.

I hope you can succeed. I am not sure how to myself or I might help.

Re: Install and use the new Grub

Hello Other_Cody . I agree with Throgh point of view.

My opinion is this. As I have already written more than once.

Today, from the point of view of freedom, this means a smaller number of blobs:

1. Gnuuboot does not currently support full encryption including the boot Luks+argon2id partition. Leah wrote that she would send patches.

2. Libreboot

3. Coreboot

Canoeboot is Leah's project as she wrote it herself, she created it for fun, if you read it you will see that she is kind of mocking the Gnuboot project...

If we are talking about old computers, then in my opinion the best option is this one T400 (4-core processor)  ==>  https://thonkpeasant.xyz/guides/other/quad.html

These are the desktop options

How to assemble it yourself  => ASUS KGPE-D16 ==>  https://forums.hyperbola.info/search.ph … 1035883590

I don’t know why Throgh  closed this important topic, I can’t give a link but it is in the Server section.

2. Talos™ II Secure Workstation  ==> https://www.raptorcs.com/content/TL2WK2/intro.html

Perhaps there is something better I have not seen..

Re: Install and use the new Grub

Canoeboot supposedly has the same freedom level as gnuboot. in the FSF sense of things.

I obviously don't think it grants too much more freedom than libreboot given DRM is disabled as much as possible already in libreboot.

To each their own I guess though.

Oh btw, Talos 2 won't be supported by HyperbolaBSD till they get a significant amount of resources + hardware to develop the new architectures as well

Same with any non x86 devices.

This is what throgh said I recall.

They need hardware of the same type as the new arch + money + people to work on porting the new arch.

Another words, as of now, not worth asking really.

Oh you mean why your other thread was closed? you can always email throgh if you are curious.  I don't know one way or another.
