Topic: [Hyperbola] Free, libre and independent

Hello together,

as always we want to make issues and current topics as transparent as possible. Within this thread I want to give an insight about Hyperbola's way outside being called "based on" and "depending on". So far we have reached out to known platforms and organizations listing Hyperbola. For the moment not many have really reacted and acted to acknowledge Hyperbola as being independent.

Distrowatch
The platform and person(s) answered that they do not acknowledge Hyperbola as being "independent" and furthermore also not reacted when we asked for a change of the description of the project / system as we now do not use any kind of snapshots. You can view the current description here. So Distrowatch ghosted us and ignored our current request.

FSF
We have asked for a change of the description for Hyperbola listed on Free GNU/Linux distributions. After a longer waiting-time we have got the response that this cannot be done right out easy and needs a review of the licensing-team (ticket-number #2018789). While we are in some way now having information we have nevertheless nothing for the moment. The FSF has so many failures within and also around their own processes, likewise not even complete information about the systems they are listing as FSDG-compliant. Trisquel is ignoring flaws, Parabola is also ignoring licensing- and freedom-issues, Guix is including non-free software (example), PureOS is not even near a FSDG-compliant system and Utoto is inactive at minimum. But the FSF is listing information like all is good: https://libreplanet.org/wiki/Group:Soft … tributions
Yes, we have reached out also with those information, but got no further feedback.

Arch GNU/Linux
We have contacted the people in the wiki-administration to remove Hyperbola GNU/Linux-libre in their listing as the system do not longer fit into this category. We have not received any feedback for the moment.

When something is changed within we will keep this updated. This thread is only about information, therefore kept closed!

Re: [Hyperbola] Free, libre and independent

Yes, we know how that sounds especially regarding the FSF. But we all need to understand that we have an information-crisis. So we are within endless debates because there are so many different parts of information going around, parts also not being correct likewise about Hyperbola. We have no interest in finger-pointing and sure we have also no issue with different interpretation of freedom. But there are surely flaws within the definitions especially from the FSF.

We have made our stance clear in several wiki-articles, to list some:

https://wiki.hyperbola.info/doku.php?id … c_failures
https://wiki.hyperbola.info/doku.php?id … y_software
https://wiki.hyperbola.info/doku.php?id … trademarks
https://wiki.hyperbola.info/doku.php?id … ional_data
https://wiki.hyperbola.info/doku.php?id … _trademark
https://wiki.hyperbola.info/doku.php?id … _downfalls
https://wiki.hyperbola.info/doku.php?id … _trademark
https://wiki.hyperbola.info/doku.php?id … mium_flaws

Inclusion of software with clear problems in freedom-respecting, with clear trademark-issues, with clear problems accepting a possible forking while we have also a FSF not really into acknowledge how important all data is, including also "non-functional data". So the issue here is: The FSF has missed the points to acknowledge for quite too long, they have missed out to get in touch with people creating software and instead only do campaigns on a meta-level. So the problems are not other systems ignoring flaws, they do it because of missed chances to get a clear and common base for all of us done by the FSF.

We were asked from some people around the FSF if we have interest to work together in the future: Yes, sure we have. But only under the generic point that we create also a common future for all and not ignoring the flaws and issues further. Under this current situation there only stays others doing finger-pointing, claiming that Hyperbola and the people here do not understand "freedom". We are turning around endless in a circle without having a chance to get out and a change for that. So we do it on our own!

Working together means for us also sharing together: So sharing a possible common code-base for forking major projects with issues. Reworking them on behalf of the whole community. Sitting in forums doing finger-pointing is only preserving the "status quo" and this thread demonstrates therefore the current state also as people and the FSF prefer only that. While doing that companies and corporations have an easy way onwards as they can promise something the FSF is not able to do. And people go for that instead for technical emancipation.
