Topic: List of libre software (sorted within groups)
Hello together,
I think it is helpful creating a list of free, libre software following the guidelines of copyleft or permissive licensing and being strict into holding up principles regarding freedom and privacy for all users. The more the better, you think? Please take into your perspective that not every project using copyleft licensing is also respecting essential principles. A very good example is systemd: Yes, the GPL version 2.0 is used, but the freedom of choice is left out as systemd was and will never be about choices and instead with over 348.000 lines of code this project cannot be called even "small". In fact this is a perfect example of bloated software. Therefore software based on this and excluding any other possible usage is a violation and won't be included here. A proposal for an entry in this list should include, if you want to report one:
Name of the project
Short description and purpose
License used
Risks to watch after (possible usage of services being a problem for privacy and freedom, bloated software etc.)
Problems with dependencies known (recommendation of Pulseaudio is one point, another
Of course: Proposals are always welcome and additions will be made. But there are also points when a software-package should and will not included here:
Violation of the freedom and privacy of users (meaning also the inclusion of proprietary services)
Not using a copyleft or permissive license for all parts, also including assets, graphics and sounds
Certainly anyone who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to make you commit injustices: For a life of every being full with peace and kindness, including diversity and freedom. Capitalism is destroying our minds, the planet itself and the universe in the end!
