Topic: XMPP gateway to connect to IRC servers

Hi all . Please tell me, based on your experience, what is the best gateway for connecting to IRC servers? I couldn't find it in the Packages section.

Re: XMPP gateway to connect to IRC servers

Hello,

personally interesting, but nevertheless not for integration into the repositories as it adds more complexity than needed. If you have a concrete usecase for it, I would propose you try to package it as mostly all dependencies are there in the Hyperbola-repositories. You can add your PKGBUILD always here: https://forums.hyperbola.info/viewtopic.php?id=773

Not to demotivate for sure, but XMPP is for XMPP-clients and IRC is another protocol. Combining them sounds interesting for sure. But it also adds even more possible traps and attack-vectors with another service and applications in the middle in execution.

Hello .

Thank you very much for the useful advice, I agree with you about separate protocols!

I will explain why I was looking for a bridge. Previously, I used Matrix, which had a bridge for IRC for chatting, but now this is not possible, since libera chat developers see this as a security problem.

How can I register in IRC chat without specifying an email? Even when I specify my email, libera chat does not allow all VPN providers to pass through??

First of all: You can upload files on privacy-friendly platforms and implement them here directly. This send is not so privacy-friendly: https://github.com/timvisee/send#requirements

Coming towards: Personally I cannot state anything about the rulesets libera.chat is using. But registering without any e-mail is sounding a bit strange as in case of issues you would have never again the chance to solve problems and would loose the created account complete. Solving those points would be more helpful if you get in touch directly with the people hosting libera.chat.

As alternative, but also privacy-friendly: You can upload images here and link the uploaded files directly in the forums so people have no need downloading them.

Lufi is generic in Perl written and free, libre licensed, possible to be hosted from everyone. Besides for sure it is using also JavaScript, which makes it a bit of two-sided issue as most other services around those days. Here the sources: https://framagit.org/fiat-tux/hat-softwares/lufi/

Re: XMPP gateway to connect to IRC servers

Hello . Thanks for your answers and opinion.

As for registration by mail, this, in my opinion, should be the user’s choice and not a mandatory rule. How does it work, for example, with https://qtox.github.io/ (calls, communication, etc.) No one obliges the user to register by mail. If I lost my mail, I'll make a new one.

As for uploading photos here to the forum, I wanted to do this from the first post)) but I didn’t find a tool on how to do it. If it’s not difficult for you, please tell me.

I knew about the https://github.com/ldidry/lufi  service, well I will use it as a backup option, thank you!
