Topic: Freenode is going down?

Hello together,

bad news these days and it seems not stopping. For now about Freenode: https://gist.github.com/joepie91/df80d8 … 18af497409

What does this mean for "#Hyperbola" itself as channel? Could we please take action here as soon as possible? I don't think it is wise to meet on Freenode this evening / day and for the upcoming times especially. Please comment all from the team and the community also. Worthwhile I'll try to get more into this new situation and reading what's up there. hmm

Human being in favor with clear principles and so also for freedom in soft- and hardware!

Certainly anyone who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to make you commit injustices: For a life of every being full with peace and kindness, including diversity and freedom. Capitalism is destroying our minds, the planet itself and the universe in the end!

You may want to move the #hyperbola channel from freenode then...

I just switched to https://libera.chat/

It seems to be the successor to what freenode used to be.

Re: Freenode is going down?

Let's create a tox group for Hyperbola and ditch IRC altogether.

It is not secure.

Re: Freenode is going down?

I'll come back with more information as soon as possible. For now being busy with packages, but for sure there is need for further insights.

That could be a good point, if its possible to do tox group.

never done that myself before though, gl, can't help you with that yet...

It's extremely trivial. So far I've tried thrice, but people haven't joined the group. If everyone is willing, I can make it 1 more time. It isn't useful if no one joins.

Re: Freenode is going down?

we cant use tox group yet cause most of us use qtox client and in Hyperbola GNU/Linux-libre 0.3.1 we still have this issue, the next release will fix it wink but i think we need to move #hyperbola channel from freenode to https://libera.chat/

Community meeting on the future of our IRC presence

In response to current events concerning the Freenode Internet Relay Chat (IRC) network, we would like to invite you to a community meeting on the future of both the FSF and GNU's official IRC channels.

The meeting will be held in the #fsf channel on the Freenode network on Thursday, May 27 from 13:00-14:30 EDT (17:00-18:30 UTC). The discussion will be moderated by members of the FSF staff, as well as GNU webmasters Amin Bandali and Jason Self.

Although no final decision will be made at this meeting, we're inviting you to use it as a space to share your thoughts on how the FSF and GNU should respond to recent changes in Freenode's organizational structure. Your feedback will be vital to helping us make respective decisions on whether to remain on Freenode, and if so, in what capacity.

When: May 27, 2021 — from 01:00 PM to 02:30 PM
Where: IRC
Contact Name: campaigns@fsf.org

A preliminary agenda follows:

  • Current state and long-term future of the Freenode network;

  • Assessing alternate IRC networks (Libera, OFTC); and

  • Viability and freedom status of alternate communication networks (Matrix, XMPP).

Re: Freenode is going down?

When reading through actual comments: It seems the Freenode-team is taking over some channel for mentioning libera.chat as possible alternative. There has to be a solution sooner or later: Personal I think the way hosting own ircd with combining Freenode and Libera could be interesting!
