Re: [Hyperbola 0.4] Testing the initial installation
I had recently filed an issue for the package [wine-stable]; can you change the task type to "Bug Report" from "Freedom Issue"?

I had recently filed an issue for the package [wine-stable]; can you change the task type to "Bug Report" from "Freedom Issue"?
Done, but this sounds not like a bug or issue in general as there are NO 32bit-libraries available on any 64bit-native installation, so no multilib. If you have another conclusion or solution, please share it. Just to remind everyone again onto that point: There will be no multilib available!
Added issues to the list.
Just as an addition and to be for sure absolutely clear about that point: It is NOT possible for only some selected people to test all combinations, all packages and all applications for their functionalities. Besides we all have our different preferences and knowledge-basics the amount of for now added packages is within this minutes so much that one individual could not finish that within the next year with all combinations - exactly therefore I also mention that point everytime again with future wishes for packages also. So my personal call is also: If you can, please start helping with tests, go for possible solutions of the existent issues and more. You are free to change the corresponding PKGBUILD-scripts as you wish as Hyperbola is free and libre from the ground. And the final release of 0.4 can only be good if most added packages are tested and balanced good for working. If there is no further help the release of 0.4 will take another waiting-time without possible outcome for now. That's not about bad news, it is just about a really good QA as everyone here is handling that in the free time, the best possible, with the most possible engagement, but also not alone responsible for a package-count round about near 1800 and counting. We all have a private life and if people here think that only the development-team can fix everything I think they should be clearly confronted with the fact: No, not possible! Sharing is caring, help and support is always welcome. A good libre system and distribution is always based onto working together within the community and looking for solutions, so what is needed:
- issues with clear logs and specifications for testing-scenarios, error-reports and more
- possible solutions from your own perspective if possible or otherwise please support at best possible while researching any kind of issue (don't write one and abandon it for awaiting the "solution")
Hyperbola is based onto a flat perspective to work together, so everyone here is part of that: If you don't share more information issues are not solved and will come back later on, either you use the system and get therefore not amused about that or even worse others test the system and throw it away because "It doesn't work for their part!" as common sentence used. We can have time for talking or anything else, but for now the concrete focus lies 100% only on 0.4 being finished, tested and afterwards released.
FS#1584: Another issue we recently reported that the X11 often failed at the initialization to work through the different video drivers in our QEMU instance. It seriously needs to be fixed.
Yes seen that already yesterday.
Thanks for the reminder to add to the list.
FS#1585 - Another issue that adwaita-icon-theme suffered most symbolic icons brokenly distorted.
Updated list of issues:
1586
1587
1588
FS#1591 - Another incoming issue regarding a package of ICU, building LibreOffice we just tried a few times during the testing way, but unfortunately, we failed.
For now I'm not convinced that the build-infrastructure of LibreOffice is doing that correct and needs more there to be fixed as it does not follow the FHS-standards. Perhaps there is a fix indeed needed but for LibreOffice itself as many other packages had no further problems adapting that. Nothing meant as criticism, more about again problems with packages ignoring possible adaptions and enforcing every kind of nonsense on users for compilation. The "/usr/bin" is a complete mess especially therefore having applications ignoring that.

Quick note, regarding otter-browser, it can run videos, but it has been acting very oddly regarding certain websites due to expired certificates.
Not a huge deal, except that Hyperbola, invidio websites and some others don't quite work that well. I can't override the settings to use those wesbites aka... I wonder if its a lets encrypt issue...
I will have do to more testing maybe?
It looks like it might be...
Debian.org, invidio.us, devuan.org. notabug.org, trisquel.info all use it, and strangely I cannot connect to any of them on that browser, I am using an old uxp one still...
meh...
Emulatorman mentioned about how he had this issue: vesa is broken: -> "V_BIOS address 0x0 out of range"
He also wants vesa drivers checked, whether it be intel, amd or ati work or not, which ones don't work especially, and also the same for noveau ones.
There is an issue to document that even better: https://issues.hyperbola.info/index.php … sk_id=1593

Ah nevermind then, I hadn't realized this.
A friendly reminder to all people opened an issue: Please have a look onto them from time to time. When your point for the issue is resoived, please give feedback. Also give feedback when a concurrent fix did not changed the concurrent problem for you. Thank you!
Update on the issues-list. The package midori will be sooner or later removed as the complete project is no longer oriented onto security and privacy itself for using electron.
hplip was updated and will be therefore available for testing as soon as possible.
Issue 1575 was therefore added for category TESTING.
FS#1585 - That issue seriously needs downgrading the Adwaita icon theme back to version 3.32.0, which has more compatibility for symbolic icons with the legacy version of librsvg.
Also, there is a blog article we found why Adwaita lessens compatibility to the legacy version of librsvg since version 3.33.x.
Will be included with the next commit.
A friendly reminder again: We are coming near towards the BETA-phase now. Please test issues you have opened and give us feedback onto them. Are issues solved? Please refer to them as such. Help us to identify the last remaining problems. Thank you!
Tried the latest kernel. Same problem as with the kernels before. Crashes and reboots after about 200 seconds. startx doesn't work correctly.
I have submitted dmesg and Xenocara logs before.

Just to remember: There is always the possibility to share your computer-configuration. Besides logs this is one important information. When not done, this will stay in that way.
What computer configuration do you want?
The hardware itself: Which CPU? Graphicscard? Soundcard? Network?
Again the reminder: Please do not just open some issue and let it going with the corresponding hope that "somebody else" is solving that. We can only help with concrete logs, descriptions about the issue and error-situation, with more details about your hardware and configuration. We cannot look into the future and have no further insights of your own computer. Opened issues without further details and clues will be closed in the near future and perhaps your concrete problem stay therefore unsolved as it is your responsibility.
And we will also just ignore some further forum-postings with generic mentions of errors - just to be clear about that.
