Re: Milky Way Roadmap
Hey
Well obviously i can't wait for the HyperbolaBSD so much that i decided that i'd like to migrate from gnu/linux to anything from *BSD family like now.
Since i have got thinkpad T500 with libreboot, first i made some research how would these *BSD perform on it... So i have read that FreeBSD is the worst option, it doesn't run at all... Well i have installed openBSD but i wasn't able to boot properly, so i read it's something because of intel gpu or something and libreboot... So because i felt lazy i have decided to try netBSD... So installation went smooth without any problems... I had to boot into system from grub command line (i didn't manage to configure grub): knetbsd -r wd0a (ahci0,netbsd1)/netbsd
So netbsd was ok but there was something else again... Suddenly x server started to crash all the time... That made using this pretty unstable... So some kind people on #irc told me to fill a bug report... At first it was supposed to be something going on with x server, so i have decided to just use laptop as tty without x server... After some time everything has hung and the bug was simple... drm intel gpu stack or something that has been causing system hangs therefore make it pretty unusable...
Here is dmesg
drm: GPU HANG: ecode -1:0x00000000, reason: Command parser error, iir
0x00028000, action: continue
drm: GPU hangs can indicate a bug anywhere in the entire gfx stack,
including userspace.
drm: Please file a _new_ bug report on bugs.freedesktop.org against DRI
-> DRM/Intel
drm: drm/i915 developers can then reassign to the right component if
it's not a kernel issue.
drm: The gpu crash dump is required to analyze gpu hangs, so please
always attach it.

So unfortunately i had to go back to linux kernel...
Basically is why i am writing this is that i am coming here for advice now... If every *BSD os i tried has issues running on libreboot/intel gpu machines (at least in my case) how it's going to happen that HyperbolaBSD will run without any issues if other *BSD systems fail??
And also somebody proposed me to get rid of libreboot and install coreboot with SeaBIOS instead for netBSD... Some guy gave me links for the roms and posted commands but in the same time some of my friends knocked to my doors so i wasn't available to do anythng on the laptop.
But at the moment i am pretty confused, because i have bought freedom respecting machine that comes with 100% libre libreboot...
I am basically not sure if i should get rid of libreboot and install this coreboot with seabios... I kind of feel like using *BSD to learn something new, but what counts for me most i think is the community of certain distribution or operation system... On linux i feel quite lonely...
I still consider going back to Devuan but i dont know what for really... I keep distrohopping all the time... I don't really know what i am looking for...
All the best.
