Topic: [Hyperbola-desktop] Lumina

Hello everyone,

corresponding to the wish for a better desktop-integration this thread is now starting an effort to create a so-called meta-package.
This meta-package will have the following conditions:

- dependencies for window-manager / desktop-enviroment (Lumina) with all needed other applications and services
- possible Hyperbola-modifications like themes for slim
- a shell-script for initial execution of the user to create the session-configuration within the personal HOME-folder
- a final note (install-file called) for the package with instructions, so the user is informed when installing that on the terminal

With those four steps we can create a meta-package called hyperdesktop-lumina as a first tryout for all people around. Hyperbola won't change its course, but with 0.4.3 to come we can change also some more parts for having a better helping hand about technical emancipation as this is the main goal for Hyperbola as project.

So within this thread all is collected and drawn together by the community for the community. smile

Cool, btw, I been wondering, what Common Desktop Environment looks like and if it can be used libre.

Reason I bring this up, is because CDE has screenshots, but using it, on your own system is another story entirely. I don't expect to use it forever and beyond, but I am in fact curious.

Re: [Hyperbola-desktop] Lumina

Two years ago, a formerly FreeBSD-based system called TrueOS was turned into a Void Linux based one called Project Trident, bringing along Lumina. The projects seems now abandoned; yet if some traces can be found, they may be inspirational for the task at hand. A problem could be that it also featured zfs, which is a no-go for Hyperbola's goals.

Re: [Hyperbola-desktop] Lumina

I'm working for the moment on an UML-diagram (first only activity-diagram to be concrete) to demonstrate the further planning. But I can scribble more details for the moment: As we have Lumina already within the repositories so far the meta-package here will consist of the following:

- for sure the PKGBUILD installing also ALL needed dependencies and packages in demand for a desktop itself, including also our newer additions for language-selection, battery-view, clipboard and more (therefore also the hard work in the concurrent days)
- initial xinitrc and further startup-scripts
- a concrete setup-script the user has to execute before restarting and using
- a guidance annotation (we call those install-scripts)

What is also needed: A theme-package for slim, but this will be also in the works. When somebody has interest doing that, please leave a message or share your ideas and insights.
