Hello and welcome to the forums,
first please be informed that you always need to recognize that the current package-list shown is the one from testing (https://www.hyperbola.info/packages/) and the current last change (posting you mention) is not finally done. The reasoning behind is that the last months were very hard and intense for us as team, individuals and surely whole project. The up and down for our financial situation is not granting much support, therefore we reduce as much as possible current. We had intense debates with people demanding several renewals and additions. The replacement of hyperman is not finalized out of exactly that situation and also I need to remember towards the size of our team. We work as hard as possible under the current situation, not only to finish 0.4.5 but also to fulfill the wishes for a complete offline-installation. Perhaps it is easier to understand the different points when I list them with the demand and the problems (quoting from the roadmap):
Reduce ISO-image and rebuild essential packages: We did the most possible with all packages and their dependencies, but as far we have come the more we have got demands and further pressure to find alternatives or adapt something else from different users
Documentation for offline-installation: On-going but also here users throw over the planning and for the moment we try best to get a way forward
Remove pacman for finally supporting hyperman as drop-in replacement: Internal done but further testing and migration was not possible until now as we were confronted with more demands
Remove remnants of Arch GNU/Linux tools and replace with own implementations: Internal done but depending on hyperman finalized
Remove further packages being GNU/Linux-only focussed: Foremost done
Enhancements for fonts and spell-checking: Foremost done
Enhancements for work without eudev / udev: Done so far possible
You can see how complicate it can be, also as people partwise use Hyperbola as projection for their wishful thinking, hearsay and dreamcastle-building. So we are also confronted on-going with further unrealistic awaitings and need to correct them as far as we can. We also said before that for example we would like to keep icedove-uxp just later to discover we cannot go on with as there is no real way forward in further development for UXP on our side. Yes, I know how this looks but we need to be honest and transparent: GNU/Linux as system is going an unstable path and we can now clearly underline and approve this point. For this reasoning keeping Hyperbola running there is only our current way forward to reduce as much as possible. But users only want to see on-going updates and additions so they can preserve the newest while ignoring fully how the state of the team behind the used system is. We paid until today to sustain and the financial situation is for the moment not going to be better. You can look here: https://wiki.hyperbola.info/doku.php?id … :donations
My recommendation is to use stable. You will not loose packages when a new version is coming as all installed will just be available after any update. You can also use surely testing but as the name says: It is in current rework until we can finalize 0.4.5. As we have even lost further donations and support this will take longer for sure.
You can find the current stable version 0.4.4 here: https://wiki.hyperbola.info/doku.php?id … :downloads
Also you can subtract the listed packages when we are finished: I have now added an important note to the posting you mention so it should be more clear. Thanks for noting. I will now close this thread.
Human being in favor with clear principles and so also for freedom in soft- and hardware!
Certainly anyone who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to make you commit injustices: For a life of every being full with peace and kindness, including diversity and freedom. Capitalism is destroying our minds, the planet itself and the universe in the end!
